The crowd in Busboys & Poets celebrates as Barack Obama was announced
President of the U.S.
D.C. is shaking with excitement and it's not even New Year's Eve yet. But, a new day has arrived! I must send a heartfelt "Yes We Can!" to the first Black President of the United States, Barack Obama. Along with his family, Barack just brought a little more fabulosity back to Chocolate City -- not that we ever lost any.
The city is still celebrating after Obama's historic win --- a win no one will ever forget. Where were you when Barack Obama beat out presidential candidate John McCain?
I was in Busboys & Poets (1390 V St. N.W.) with hundreds of D.C. regulars. The line was down the block to come into this quaint bookstore/bar to experience history.
Many other celebrities were spotted celebrating in D.C., including R&B singer Usher, who partied at The Park at Fourteenth (920 14th St. N.W.) and even Washington Redskin's running back Clinton Portis was spotted throwing up the “O” in support of Obama's win!
Congrats to DMV native Raheem DeVaughn, who was recently nominated for four BETJ Virtual Awards, a new online awards show on BET.com. Raheem was nominated for album of the year, song of the year, male artist of the year and live performer of the year. Also, Howard alumnus Eric Roberson was nominated for best underground artist. The awards show, which will be hosted by Nia Long, will air on Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. EST.
Spotted! Mayor Adrian Fenty helped the staff at Bread for the City pack grocery bags to get ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Common was spotted promoting his new album {Universal Mind Control} with a performance at Love nightclub and R&B newcomer Brandon Hines performed at the Essence Young Women's Leadership Conference that came to the convention center over the weekend.
The conference gathered over 1,000 young women, helping to empower them with leadership skills. It featured celebrity panelists such as MTV reality show stars Angela and Vanessa Simmons as well as Capricorn Clark, global brand manager of Sean John and star of VH1's reality show "I Want to Work for Diddy."
Keep the Barack Obama celebrations going this weekend! On Saturday night, the party is at Station 9 (1438 U St. N.W.) where the young professionals will gather for a masquerade party, and don't worry, masks will be provided! Doors open at 10 p.m.
Keep it fab!
