Responses to Rumsfeld's resignation ...
In Iraq, soldiers weighed in.
Cpl. Dannie Green, a Washington, D.C. Army reservist stationed at Forward Operation Base Q-West in northern Iraq said ... Cpl. Green said the situation in Iraq could have been managed better "from the upper echelon portion of it."
"I think it's more of a power thing -- trying to get a different perspective as far as the leadership of the military is concerned, because they [military leaders] said that Rumsfeld didn't listen, he didn't take their suggestions as far as what they felt would get them where they want to go.
"Pretty much between him and Bush, [they] had their own set mind about what they wanted [and] how they wanted it]. They're sitting back in that office. They don't see, they don't feel. All they hear is the statistics."
Lt. Kerik Geese, Silver Spring. Md resident assigned to the 298th at Q-West said ...
Lt. Geese said he wasn't concerned by Rumsfeld's departure.
"Whether it's Rumsfeld or his replacement, we still serve at the pleasure of the president of the United States. They still will follow the president of the United States' policies."
Sgt. Justin Cummings at Camp Anaconda said ...
Sgt. Justin Cummings said he felt "we lost a good man." He said Rumsfeld's military background enabled him to better empathize with soldiers.
"It helped out with the decisions he made. Nobody may ever understand what he was trying to do over here. It's so many people against the war; it's got to be somebody looking out for us. We're over here fighting it."
