On the basis of his inaugural speech, minorities (including immigrants) and women should be comfortable in believing that during his next term in office President Clinton will...?

I think it's time that we realize that President
Clinton or any other elected official is going to
do anything for us until we decide to do for
ourselves. As we've all heard growing up
God helps those who help themselves, and this
is what we have to do. I notice that one person
made the comment that we should not work for a
day, who is that going to hurt but us, leaving us
a little less money to spend on necessities. We
need to stick together as a people and hit where
it hurts our capitalist society the most -- in the
pocketbook. Just think if we could get one day
a month when black people would not spend one dime
or do any business with companies like Denny's,
Texaco, etc. that already prove their racist views
to us but then spend a little money to compensate
us so we will continue to spend billions with them.
If we did not spend any money or do any banking,
buy gas, etc., think of the impact this would have.
Secondly, we elect our officials and politicians.
If we show them that we mean business, are mad
as hell and not going to take their mistreatment
of our brothers and sisters sitting down and
voting them out of office...guess what we would
see change.... We all know that even drugs are
funded by whom? Just think one - two days per
month and the effect it would have on the economy.
I see we are all worred about what Clinton will
do for us...I think we should have been thinking
about all of our younger generation that does
not even bother to vote because they feel their
one vote does not count. My sisters and brothers
lets look back at what our ancestors and parents
went through just so we could have the right to
vote. These are things that we can work together
to do as first steps to getting where we want to go.
THank you,
Tamla

I believe that Clinton will turn his back on black people like the rest of the politicians who pimp the "black vote." All Mr. Clinton had to do was show up to a few black churches, play his sax on Arsenio and throw a few dollars our way and we would be happy. Now it is time for him to repay some of his debts to the major campaign donators and I'm sorry to say that most of them were not black. He will do the bare minimum to satisfy black people and will get away with it. Black people tend to have amnesia. We forget how people have treated us historically now we think that because a few programs have been set up that everything is good? We have forgotten how to depend on each other and the unity we once had. Mr. Clinton nor any other politician will be able to help us regain what we once had. We must not forget that Mr. Clinton and others like him are groomed to make us believe them. How much has Mr. Clinton being in office done for the well being of black people in this country? Maybe if he spent more time on domestic issues we may receive the necessary resources to improve our lives instead of pouring the resources into international affairs. Don't get me wrong, things could be worse under the republican administration, but maybe that is what it will take for blacks to see that politics will get us nowhere. It is time to stop voting for the lesser of two evils and taking a stand for our rights. What is being done to us now is only plugging the holes of our problems. We need a whole new bucket!!!

A speech is axactly what it is,"A SPEECH". But
if it's not backed up by action it remains
nothing more than good intentions.Don't expect
the republicans to allow real change to take
place, that would be to much like right. They
don't mind rhetoric, but lets not get carried
away with the idea that real change is about to
take place. We've been down this road before with
other presidents who believed they could change
America,remember John F.Kennedy.One could get
killed for really believing you can make this
country better for black America!!!!!!!!!!!!

hell we don't even trust each other, and that a
good way to keep us apart.

I fell Clinton next term will be filled with retoric and propaganda. He will first address his personal agendas: To do something great for the history books and attempt to keep his personal life out of the press. That is what all second termers do. Second he will attempt to tie some of the loose ends while ducking Newt. He surely will not address the issues that i am concerned with. Like the right for blacks to vote past the year 2007, when it could be decided that we don't need that right, especially in "color blind" California were affirmative action is frowned on by majority of African?Americans that have adapted to the "Valley" culture ,deadbeat dads, tuition for college for children of deadbeat dads, public services being bought up and run by private companies that pay 7.00 per hour for a 14.00 per hour job, and the unbelievable economic stratification and blatant racism in southern California (governor Wilson/Regan state), and I really! really!! want to know if the government will allow a state to take children from poor parents if they use up their 5 years and put them up for adoption and/or foster homes?

from experience' I as an african american, realize that bill clinton's agenda has nothing to do with me. african americans need an afican american president. It is as simple as that. We will continue to be the "last hired and first fired" and considered to be a "minority" not only in number in this country, but also in intelligence and every thing else until we cease to give energy to an entity that is naturally concerned about it's own. And that is as it should be.We must come together and be only concerned about our own. devising our own method and stratagy which will make for a more comfortable life in this country for our people. we must not depend on people like jesse jasckson, john lewis, bill clinton and the n.a.a.c.p. etc. to make decisions for us. they only back their family members and friends. plus they have sold out, that is all they can do. it is okay to want to represent ourselves in the highest office of the land. it is not okay to allow others who don't have our best interest at heart to repre esent us. we have to only believe it. don't your churches teach you that or do they teach you to believe in the white man? From the book, conversations with god, neale walsch states,"hell is the experience of the worst possible outcome of your choices, decisions, and creations. It is the natural consequence of any thought which denies ME, or says no to WHO YOU ARE in relationship to me. It is the pain you suffer through wrong thinking. yet even the term "wrong thinking" is a misnomer, becaus there is no such thing as that which is wrong.Hell is the opposite of joy. It is unfullfillment. it is knowing WHO and WHAT YOU ARE, and failing to experience that. It is being less. That is hell. and there is none greater for your soul. But hell does not exist as this place you have fantasized, where you burn in some everlasting fire, or exist in some state of everlasting torment. What purpose could I have in that?" we will not experience heaven anywhere and anytime until we see ourselves as heaven worthy. How can we ffeel worthy of anything until we take the responsibility of governing ourselves entirely. i we have the capability but not the confidence. and now we appear very stupid to the world because of our status in this country. it is inherent to recognize that most of us as african americans appear to have decided it'a alright to be subservient and submissive. too lazy to make dicisons about our very exsistence on this planet. I say this because we are still addressing the same subjects.I could not care less about what bill clinton does his next term. for it is just that, "his" next term.
Someone please tell me,how can what he does his next term help me? and what does that have to do with improving the african american standard in this country?

I think the president will try to be more conciliatory towards the republicans, at the
expense of the usual victims- the poor and minorities. Look for the president to "continue to review" such things as Affirmative Action,Vouchers for school choice, and the sentencing
disparity between powder cocaine and crack cocaine.

Clinton will do only what is demanded of him by the general public. If orgnaizations like churches, fraternities and soroitiesm, the NAACP,Urban League etc.
get together and insist that the president pay more attention to their needs, the president will list this as a top priority. Only those who understand the importance of lobbying (phone call, letters, attending hearings etc.) will get results. The president has outlined what he is willing to do now he needs the support of citizens to encourge him to push ahead.

1. A white man who will do anything in his power to keep the white race on top !!!!
2. He is no friend to the african - americans.

that he will make every effort to be fair to all people, but will be attacked on evey issue by the republicans. It's hard for me to believe in the presidency position, not Bill Clinton but his position being that so many others have powers to veto his intentions. If it was just his power then I would have great hopes but that is not the case so I will not fantasy of the possibilities, but my question is why have a president when his opinions can be erased by someone else. I have never understood the dictation of others who have less powers than the president to be able to nip something in the bud before it can be tried?
