Leon Whitney, a longtime Columbia resident died at Howard County General Hospital on July 11, 2014.  He was 77. Born January 12, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland, served in the Army, received a BS in accounting from Univ. of Baltimore and in 1968, was among the first African-American C.P.A.s in the state. After working for corporations, Leon established his own private practice and forty-five years later was semi-retired at the time of his death.  Leon is survived by Yvonne, his wife of 55 years; children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and other close relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on July 23, 2014 and Leon Whitney was laid to rest at Garrison Veterans Cemetery.
