Comptroller to Recognize Baltimore Bakery and Eatery; Visit Camp and Rec Center

WHAT: Comptroller Peter Franchot will begin his day in Baltimore taking in the aromas of James “Jim” Hamlin’s “Poppay’s Rolls” and other baked goods when he stops by The Avenue Bakery to present a proclamation recognizing Mr. Hamlin for bringing people back to Baltimore’s Historic Pennsylvania Avenue by opening his business four years ago. The Comptroller then will stop by Lexington Market to present a proclamation to Nancy Devine, owner of Faidley’s Seafood. Faidley’s Seafood was founded in 1886 by John W. Faidley Sr. Faidley’s is well known for its award-winning jumbo lump crab cakes.
The Comptroller will visit with high schools students at the Baltimore Business Camp at the Merrick School of Business as part of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at the University of Baltimore. The recruited students from the Baltimore metropolitan area are taking part in free two-week day camps through the month of July. The students are learning how to turn business ideas into a sole proprietorship or partnership. Comptroller Franchot will end his day in West Baltimore at the Mount Royal Recreational Center, where he will meet students who are bolstering their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills at the camp by building roller coasters.
