The United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) 34th annual “Evening of Stars” Celebration will air Jan. 27, with a list of veteran artists and entertainers that includes Chaka Khan, Eric Benet, Faith Evans, Keyshia Cole, and Tyrese Gibson performing in the name of higher education for African Americans.

More than just a show full of cutting edge performers, the UNCF gala also serves as a showcase for the award of college scholarships to Black students, which is at the core of the fund’s mission of making higher education accessible to African American students.

The show, taped in Pasadena, Calif., will be aired by BET on Jan. 27 10 p.m.

“We are very excited to be a part of this inspirational night,” says BET Networks  Chairman and CEO Debra Lee, in a statement. “Historically black colleges and universities hold a special and important role in the African American community and we are honored to help raise funds and awareness to support the education of the next generation of leading African American professionals."

Usher Raymond, Grammy winner and founder of the New Look Foundation, will present New Look’s first four-year scholarship to Ammon Lyle, a Milwaukee, Wis. high school senior. He will attend Howard University, according to the foundation.

Raymond first began the academy in 1999 and has since made it a goal to prepare youth for leadership in the arts, the classroom, and in the workplace and community.

The UNCF “Evening of Star’s” event was originally presented as the “Lou Rawls Parade of Stars.” The annual show has added $200 million to the fund that helps students attend college, nail down internship opportunities, and earn post-graduate degrees.

"I hope everybody tunes in and donates from the bottom of their hearts and the bottom of their pockets," said actor Anthony Anderson, host of the show, in a statement.

"Unfortunately, over 60,000 students apply for scholarships and financial aid every year and UNCF is able to award scholarships to just 15,000 who need help going to college. That's why I'm a part of what UNCF is doing and I'm here for the long run."
