While big sister Beyoncé sells out convention centers for her “Mrs. Carter” tour, little sister and fashion darling Solange Knowles sought out a few headlines of her own.
The 27-year-old’s performance on July 29 had most of the usual musical accompaniment: Solange sang and danced alongside a live band and her backup singers on a raised stage, but she wasn’t performing in your traditional club or concert hall. Instead, she performed next to coin-operated laundry machines and clothes dryers inside the Atlantis Super Wash Center Laundromat in Brooklyn, New York.
The unusual performance was sponsored by Vitaminwater and The Fader’s Magazine for their Uncapped Event and “Make Boring Brilliant” campaign.
Dressed in a funky Clover Canyon Resort 2014 diamond printed sweater and matching shorts, Knowles performed her single “Bad Girls” on a raised stage in the center of the laundromat.
When Knowles took to the stage, she said, “This laundromat really has me wanting to be a drama queen tonight, so excuse my theatrics.”
She wowed the audience during the live performance just days after canceling her European tour.
The “Losing You” singer said she canceled the tour to focus on her family and to get through a “mental/physical health” issue she is currently battling.
