Wizards Duck Elimination with Blowout Win in Indiana


Center Marcin Gortat had a double-double of 31 points with 16 rebounds and guard John Wall had 27 points with 5 assists to help the Washington Wizards survive a possible elimination game with a 102-79 blowout win over the Indiana Pacers in game five of the Eastern Conference semifinals in Indiana.

The two Wizards stars showed everyone how the Wizards made the playoffs in the first place with a much-needed victory after losing three consecutive games to Indiana, including two straight games in their own arena in D.C.

Washington led by just seven points at halftime, but took over in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Pacers, 31-14, in the period to take a commanding 76-52 lead into the 4th quarter. From there, the Wizards were able to hold on to their comfortable lead for the win.

Guard Brad Beal added 18 points for Washington and forward Trevor Ariza scored 10 points with 10 rebounds and five assists.

Only two players scored double digits for Indiana: forward David West had 17 point and forward Paul George had 15 points.

Washington will host the Pacers in game six of the series on May 15 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Tip off is at 8 p.m.
