BALTIMORE (Oct. 21, 2013) – Demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)<http://www.bge.com/Pages/default.aspx> was recently awarded with a prestigious Chartwell Best Practices Award for Utilities for its efforts to educate customers on energy efficiency and promote its BGE Smart Energy Savers Program<http://www.bgesmartenergy.com/> to industrial and commercial customers. BGE received the Chartwell Best Practices Silver Award for its business energy efficiency marketing campaign recently at the Chartwell 10th Annual Best Practices in Customer Service, Marketing and Outage Communications Awards in Atlanta, Ga. Chartwell’s Best Practices Awards recognize excellence among electric and/or gas utilities with respect to projects, programs and/or service initiatives.

“BGE is proud to be recognized by Chartwell as an industry leader for our efforts to educate our customers, whether it be residential, commercial, industrial, institutional or nonprofit, on the programs available through the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program<http://www.bgesmartenergy.com/> to help them save energy, save money and become more energy efficient,” said Ruth Kiselewich, director of energy efficiency programs for BGE. “Working together with BGE, our customers have achieved significant milestones by strongly supporting BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program<http://www.bgesmartenergy.com/smart-energy-savers-programs> through rebates and other incentives intended to help them control and decrease their energy usage, which may also help them reduce their energy bills. The success of this suite of programs is absolutely dependent upon customer participation and BGE has worked hard over the past several years to continually provide our customers with the tools they need to better manage their energy usage.  We are pleased to accept this award on our customers’ behalf and share it with the BGE employees who work tirelessly to design, implement and improve our programs.”

The BGE Smart Energy Savers Program<http://www.bgesmartenergy.com/> features a comprehensive portfolio of energy efficiency programs, which support the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act of 2008 and are intended to help customers reduce energy usage and demand in support of EmPOWER Maryland’s goal of a 15 percent per capita electric energy reduction by 2015. BGE customers have achieved an annual energy savings of more than 1.4 billion kilowatt hours (kWh); equivalent to eliminating the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the electricity use of an estimated more than 147,000 homes for one year, as a result of their participation in the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program<http://www.bgesmartenergy.com/> since its launch.
