Stella Marie Carter, 58


Stella Marie Carter, daughter of Estella Spruill and the late Preston Spruill was born on March 4, 1955 in Pitt County, N.C. She departed this life on Nov. 27 after a brief illness.

She received her education at Houston-Woods Senior High in Baltimore, and Baltimore City Community College. At the age of 17, Stella was employed by Urban Service Agency at which her primary responsibility was to provide support service to the 22 neighborhood outreach centers. Stella performed many tasks as a liaison between Urban Service and the Mayor Stations.

Since 2001 Stella was employed as a Human Service Worker for the Department of Housing and Community Development.

Stella was an exceptional employee; she worked in emergency situations dealing with crises regardless of the time of day or night they occurred.

Stella had a need for caring for children. She was involved in special holiday projects to solicit donations such as food, clothing, money and vouchers. She would volunteer her time to pick up food and distribute to organizations and churches to promote the need of the fourth and sixth district of the Baltimore Community Action Center for needy families. She worked in City Government for 35 years.

In 1995 Stella became a foster parent to many teenagers and she helped them through college which made her very proud.

Stella made numerous friends wherever she went and was loved by everyone that knew her, she could capture your heart with her winning smile and warm heart.

Stella loved to dress and look good all the time. She tried not to let anyone see her not made up. She loved life to the fullest.

Stella leaves to cherish her memory: Her mother Estella Spruill, one brother Charles (Rebecca) Andrews, six sisters Carolyn Chavis, Alice (Joseph) Oaks, Ethel (Denver) Johnson, Vera Peoples, Jacqueline (Melvin) Mark, and Gloriastine Staton of North Carolina. S, two aunts, Annie Jones of New Jersey and Helen Williams of North Carolina, five nephews, two nieces, and eighteen great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memory a very special friend, Frankie Carter whom she loved very much. She also had one brother Preston Spruill and a sister Lois Spruill, two nephews, Irvin Lawson and Perrin Spruill who preceded her in death.

Services for Stella Carter begin with the wake, 9:30 a.m., with the funeral following at 10 a.m., Dec. 7, at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, 2720 W. North Ave. in Baltimore.
