ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 14, 2010) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will take a road trip Thursday and Friday to visit colleges across western Maryland. Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown administration’s higher education efforts and has set a goal during the administration’s first term to visit every community and public college and university, along with as many independent and private institutions as possible. To date, the lieutenant governor has visited every public four year college and university and all but two community colleges. Upon completion of his road trip, Brown will have spent substantial time at each of the State’s 16 community colleges.
“I’m looking forward to taking a college road trip and engaging students, professors and administrators in an important conversation about higher education. In the last four years, we have done a great deal to make college more affordable and we have strengthened our partnerships to ensure that Maryland remains the best-educated and most highly-skilled state in America,” Lt. Governor Brown said.
Brown’s road trip will include visits to Hood College in Frederick, Frostburg State University, Allegany College and Carroll Community College. The lieutenant governor has scheduled a variety of events at each campus, including lunch meetings with students, tours and press announcements. He will deliver ceremonial checks representing capital funding included in the FY11 budget which the General Assembly approved earlier this month, including a $2 million check to Hood College for a green project to renovate the College’s air and heating system and a check for $790,000 to Allegany College for renovations to the school’s automotive technology building.
