ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 29, 2010) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will visit Silver Spring tomorrow afternoon as part of his Main Street Recovery Tour. He will set out on a walking tour of storefront businesses in downtown Silver Spring and meet with small business owners before holding a press conference to announce a new Neighborhood Business Works loan that has been awarded to help complete the rehabilitation and restoration of the old Fire Station 1 building on Georgia Avenue. The old fire station is being refitted to house Fire Station 1 Restaurant and Brewing Company, formerly Hook & Ladder, which will create 125 permanent jobs and has supported over 20 construction jobs throughout the construction process.
Media is invited to join the tour for B-roll and background purposes only. The tour will depart at approximately 1:00 PM from Mandalay Restaurant and Café (930 Bonifant Street, Silver Spring). The tour will include brief visits to a handful of storefront retail businesses, including Jim Dandy’s Tuxedo and Dry Cleaners, Silver Spring Books, Kefa Café and Bell Flowers – the second oldest business in Silver Spring. The tour will end at Fire House 1 Restaurant and Brewery (8131 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring). The press conference is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:00 PM.
Brown met with small, storefront business owners last month in Hyattsville and will continue to conduct similar tours and meetings throughout the spring and summer months.
