First Lady Partners with State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nancy Grasmick to Engage Schools Across the State to Prevent Bullying
Annapolis, MD (May 21, 2009) – First Lady Katie O’Malley Monday will visit with students and educators at Pikesville Middle School and will kick off Maryland’s Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, which is May 24th-28th, 2010. During her visit, First Lady O’Malley will draw attention to the harmful effects of bullying and the state’s commitment to its prevention.
Bullying greatly interferes with Maryland’s educational plan, Achievement Matters Most, which aims for all schools to be safe, drug-free, and conducive to learning. In line with this Mission, Pikesville Middle has developed school programs which have helped prevent and intervene in school bullying and harassment. During the First Lady’s visit, the Principal and students of Pikesville Middle School will share these programs and discuss the impact bullying has on a child’s ability to learn.
