Joins Howard County “Buy Local” Event to Encourage All Marylanders to Eat Locally and to Help Kick Off the County Farm2Table Restaurant Weeks
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 19, 2010) – First Lady O’Malley today will attend Howard County’s Film "Feastival," at Clark’s Elioak Farm in Ellicott City. The Film “Feastival serves as the kick-off event for Howard County’s Farm2Table Restaurant Weeks (July 26 thru August 8). The two-week promotion is the annual food extravaganza in which Howard County’s finest restaurants incorporate locally grown products to serve farm fresh meals at discounted prices.
The “Feastival,” which features local food tastings from area chefs, a small farmers’ market and a screening of the film “Ingredients” builds on Maryland’s “Buy Local Challenge Week,” July 17-25, when Marylanders are asked to eat at least one locally grown product each day. This event will educate residents of the community about the importance of eating locally grown food products, not only for health benefits but also for environmental and economic reasons as well. Last week, Governor and First Lady O’Malley hosted the 3rd Annual Buy Local Cookout at their official Annapolis residence to kick off the Buy Local Challenge Week.
