-The Comptroller Will Promote Tax-Free Weekend at Local Appliance Store-
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
Councilwoman Vickie Almond, Baltimore County
Walt Auburn, Maryland Energy Administration
George S. Aburn, Jr., Maryland Department of Environment
Dave Goshorn, Department of Natural Resources
Patrick Donoho, Maryland Retailers Association president
WHAT: Piggy-backing on this summer’s successful Shop Maryland tax-free week, Comptroller Peter Franchot will announce Shop Maryland Energy, a weekend offering a tax break on certain ENERGY STAR products. The Comptroller will be joined by Maryland Retailers Association president Patrick Donoho and various state agency officials, as they unveil the list of products eligible for the sales tax exemption.
The ENERGY STAR label was established to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants caused by the inefficient use of energy. The label makes it easier for consumers to identify energy-efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features, and comfort.
Shop Maryland Energy will be held throughout the state during the weekend of February 19-21.
