Baltimore Gas and Electric Company’s Completion of Natural Gas Line Inspection in Howard County Will Result in Lane Shifts and Closures to Allow Utility to Repave Roadway Disturbed by Inspection



Weekend work in Oct. and Nov. to take place at intersection of MD Routes 1 and 175 to create new, temporary traffic patterns; Motorists should anticipate possible delays and use caution when traveling through construction zone

BALTIMORE, Oct. 7, 2011 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced that it will be performing roadwork construction at the intersection of Maryland Routes 1 and 175 in Jessup, Md.

WHAT: The roadwork follows a BGE inspection of a large diameter gas transmission line at intersection of MD 1 and MD 175 to comply with the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline Integrity Act. The inspection included partial removal of the concrete road surface which now requires replacement. The construction will result in temporary lane shifts that will be clearly marked. Beginning in the second weekend of construction there will be a detour for traffic turning east onto MD 175 from MD 1 South.* Motorists can expect new, shifting traffic patterns and possible delays near this intersection. Those traversing this intersection on weekends should exercise additional caution through the work zone.

WHEN: Beginning on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 and extending an estimated five weekends through Nov. 14 (weather permitting), construction will begin at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays and conclude at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Mondays.

*Detour route: The detour route will be clearly marked when it begins during the second weekend of work. Traffic on MD 1 South wishing to turn East on MD 175 will travel approximately 1/8 mile past MD 175 and turn left onto Assateague Dr., proceed East approximately 1/8 mile before turning left on to Pocomoke Ave. Travel approximately 400 feet before turning right onto MD 175 East.
