LINTHICUM, Md. (October 13, 2011) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown will address attendees of the Maryland Washington Minority Contractors’ Association’s Minority Business Expo and Round Table Symposium. The conference offers minority and women-owned companies the opportunity to attend panel discussions with experts on healthcare, transportation, utilities, and women’s business issues; identify work and contract opportunities for their companies; and obtain the tactics and strategies for success in new industries.
As the point person for the O’Malley Brown Administration’s economic development portfolio, Lt. Governor Brown has hosted several MBE University events to support Maryland’s minority and women-owned businesses and to highlight the State’s progress with minority business enterprises. Maryland has an aggressive and progressive MBE Program and has established the highest minority and women-owned business contracting goals in the nation at 25 percent. In addition, Maryland is one of a few states with an MBE law in statute and remains the only state in the nation to collect uniform reporting data including actual payments to MBEs.
