ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 13, 2011) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will preside over a meeting of the Maryland Health Care Reform Coordinating Council (HCRCC) in Annapolis, the Council’s eleventh meeting overall. The Council, co-chaired by Lt. Governor Brown and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, will hear from two individuals who have been impacted by Health Care Reform. In addition, Secretary Sharfstein and Maryland Health Benefit Exchange Executive Director Rebecca Pearce will provide the Council with an update on efforts by advisory committees to examine key policy issues impacting the exchange. The four advisory committees are Operating Model and Insurance Rules Advisory Committee, Small Business Exchange (SHOP) Advisory Committee, Navigator and Enrollment Advisory Committee and Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee. Lt. Governor Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s efforts to reduce costs, expand access, and improve the quality of care for all Marylanders. Under the leadership of Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown, Maryland has implemented reforms that have expanded health coverage to over 289,000 Marylanders and put the State in position to maximize the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA).
