LT. GOVERNOR BROWN, SENATOR MIKULSKI, COUNTY EXECUTIVE LEGGETT TO ANNOUNCE NATIONAL CYBER CENTER OF EXCELLENCE AT NIST

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (February 20, 2012) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, and Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will hold a press conference at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to announce a new partnership to establish the National Cyber Center of Excellence – one of the key elements of the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s CyberMaryland initiative and a recommendation called for in the 2010 CyberMaryland: Epicenter for Information Security & Innovation report – which will serve as a gateway for public-private partnerships in developing cyber technology and advancements in cybersecurity.

NIST's mission is to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life. The new National Cyber Center of Excellence will forge public-private partnerships to help advance cyber research and development and foster the creation of cyber technology and tools.
