Event honors soldiers who deployed to Afghanistan in 2010
On Saturday, February 25, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) will honor members of the U.S. Army National Guard’s 29th Infantry Division at a Freedom Salute Ceremony. Soldiers from the division spent nearly a year in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, and returned to the United States in October 2011.
The unit is comprised of 135 soldiers from Maryland and Virginia, who helped develop the Afghan National Army and Police. The ceremony celebrates the sacrifice and accomplishment of the soldiers from the infantry, as well as those of their families. Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown will also be in attendance.
