LT. GOVERNOR BROWN STATEMENT ON SENATE PASSAGE OF CIVIL MARRIAGE PROTECTION ACT

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (February 23, 2012) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement today on the vote by the Maryland Senate to pass the Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012:

“I applaud the Maryland Senate for their vote affirming that all Marylanders should have the opportunity to take on the privileges and the responsibilities of marriage. Such committed unions deserve the respect and equal recognition under the law that come with civil marriage. Sending the Civil Marriage Protection Act to Governor O’Malley for his signature is a historic accomplishment that will strengthen families, encourage loving and committed homes for more Maryland children, and fully protect religious freedoms throughout our State.”
