Comptroller Franchot will award H.O.P.E (For All), with inaugural William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for the organization’s work in providing basic resources to the needy in Anne Arundel County. The organization was started by two former teachers who saw first hand the immense need of families in the county for the basics like clean clothes, furniture and beds.
The Comptroller created the Schaefer award to honor the legacy of public service exemplified by former governor and comptroller William Donald Schaefer who died last year. One winner will be selected in each of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions and the Comptroller will present the awards this spring.
While in Anne Arundel County, the Comptroller will pay a visit to Woodside Elementary School.  He will meet with educators and county officials to discuss the effectiveness of the window air conditioning units in school classrooms.  Anne Arundel County is one of the few counties that uses window units in their classrooms and is able to make it work both fiscally and practically.
