TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will deliver remarks at the plenary session of the Health Affairs national policy conference, “After the Supreme Court: Moving Ahead to Implement the Affordable Care Act, Improve Health and Health Care and Lower Costs,” at the National Press Club. Health Affairs is the leading journal of health policy thought and research. The peer-reviewed journal was founded in 1981 under the aegis of Project HOPE, a nonprofit international health education organization. Health Affairs explores health policy issues of current concern in both domestic and international spheres.
Lt. Governor Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s efforts to reduce costs, expand access, and improve the quality of care for all Marylanders. Maryland has been recognized as a national leader in implementing the federal Affordable Care Act and Brown has become a leading voice on implementation in the states, delivering major addresses at annual conferences for AcademyHealth, the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD), and the National Medical Association.
Under the leadership of Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown, Maryland has implemented reforms that have expanded health coverage to over 330,000 Marylanders, half of whom are children, established Maryland’s Health Benefit Exchange, and put the State in position to maximize the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Independent analysis by the Hilltop Institute at the University of Maryland Baltimore County has found that implementation of the ACA will benefit the state’s budget by more than $600 million through 2020, generate more than $3 billion in annual economic activity, and create more than 26,000 jobs.
