BGE Customers Reach Significant
Energy Savings Milestone of More than
1.2 Billion Kilowatt Hours Saved
BGE customers participating in the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program® are saving more than 1,200,000,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) a year and making positive impacts on the environment
Savings equate to the amount of energy needed to power all of the residential homes in Towson, Columbia and Annapolis each year
BALTIMORE, Jan. 14, 2013 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced that together with its customers, a significant energy savings milestone has been achieved. BGE and its customers have saved more than 1.2 billion kilowatt hours per year through the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program. These annual savings make a substantial impact on the environment and the savings equate to the amount of energy needed to power all of the residential homes in Towson, Columbia and Annapolis combined for an entire year. The BGE Smart Energy Savers Program, a suite of offerings intended to help customers reduce energy usage and demand in support of EmPOWER Maryland’s goal of a 15 percent per capita reduction in energy consumption by 2015, has allowed BGE customers participating in the program to save over 1.2 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) a year.

The BGE Smart Energy Savers Program is a suite of programs that enable all customers to control energy use, leading to more efficient use of electricity and lowering energy bills from where they otherwise would be. Collectively, the programs help contain the cost of energy and improve reliability. The programs also help to reduce peak demand and slow the growth in energy consumption to lessen the need for more power plants.
