“Through Operation Pipeline, BGE is making an investment to upgrade gas equipment that is approaching the end of useful service,” said Jeannette M. Mills, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “This program is part of BGE’s continuing commitment to providing safe and reliable energy systems, and by taking this proactive approach, customers benefit from a more efficient and cost-effective way to maintain infrastructure.”
In addition to the five new projects beginning this year, Operation Pipeline has initiated 24 upgrade projects throughout the central Maryland region since 2010 when the program began. Nearly 40 miles of cast iron or bare steel pipelines have been retired since the program’s inception.
