WHY: Older room air conditioners use approximately 10 percent more energy than ENERGY STAR certified models increasing energy use and decreasing efficiency. A new ENERGY STAR certified air conditioner can save approximately $50 in energy costs over the lifetime of the unit. Recycling old air conditioners prevents them from entering landfills where they can release harmful toxins and greenhouse gases into the environment.
