WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will present the Franciscan Center with the 2013 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for the organization’s work providing emergency assistance and supportive services to economically disadvantaged citizens of Baltimore. Schaefer was a strong supporter of and past volunteer with the organization.

 

The Comptroller created the award to honor the legacy of public service exemplified by former Governor, Comptroller and Baltimore City Mayor William Donald Schaefer. One winner will be selected in each of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions and Comptroller Franchot will present the award to the winning individual or organization this Spring and Summer.

 

                        The Franciscan Center will also receive an unexpected windfall from the Comptroller after noticing the center’s listing in the Comptroller’s latest unclaimed property newspaper supplement. The Franciscan Center is one of 7,000 luck recipients finding money in the insert which listed 100,000 accounts worth $80 million.
