Edwards to Discuss How to Sustain Gains for Afghan Women at Heritage Foundation



Washington, DC – On Thursday, June 6, 2013, Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) will discuss how to protect over a decade of gains for Afghan women and the challenges they face as U.S. and NATO forces withdraw.  Hosted by the Heritage Foundation, Congresswoman Edwards will be joined by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-5). The two women co-chair the Afghan Women’s Task Force in the U.S. House of Representatives, which they founded after traveling to Afghanistan.  The Task Force has held numerous meetings with Afghan and US senior officials on the importance of promoting mechanisms to include women in the reconciliation process and protect women’s rights.
