WHAT: Comptroller Franchot, along with Congressman Elijah Cummings and state and local officials, will announce a first-of-its-kind outreach campaign to small businesses in Howard County which may be eligible for special tax credits.
The Comptroller’s Office is participating in a pilot program introduced by Maryland Health Care for All Coalition aimed at informing more than 5,000 small businesses in Howard County about potentially eligibility for tax credits under the Affordable Care Act. Using tax data, the Comptroller’s Office compiled the list of businesses and is mailing out the notice to protect confidentiality. This is the first time in the nation that a state financial official has sent such a notice to encourage small business to take advantage of the tax credits.
