BGE Honors Nearly 250 Employee Veterans in Recognition of Veterans Day with a Commemorative Pin
Employees gathered at various company locations today to honor those who have served in the U.S. armed forces and to recognize employee veterans for their collective sacrifice and service

BALTIMORE, (Nov. 11, 2013) – In recognition of Veterans Day and in gratitude of the sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces, employees from across Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)<> came together at various company locations to honor fellow employee veterans and thank them for their service. Throughout the day, nearly 250 employee veterans were honored with a commemorative pin and a letter of gratitude and appreciation for their service.

“At BGE we are proud to honor the nearly 250 employees who have proudly served as a Marine, Soldier, Sailor, Airman and in the National Guard with a commemorative Veterans Day pin as a token of our gratitude and appreciation for their service,” said Stephen J. Woerner, senior vice president and chief operating officer for BGE. “Whether in the reserves or active duty, overseas or here in the United States, Veterans Day honors all current and retired members of military branches. While those who have fallen are never far from anyone’s thoughts, Veterans Day is the day in which America, as a whole, is collectively filled with solemn pride for the honorable service provided by all military heroes.”

Today’s Veterans Day tribute event was organized by the company’s employee resource group, EMAC (Exelon Militaries Actively Connected) Baltimore Chapter, which promotes a positive workplace environment for those with prior military service and employees who would like to be involved in military issues and establishes a networking tool for all employees, regardless of military affiliation across the Exelon family of companies. EMAC supports and mentors members with a focus on community involvement.

The EMAC employee resource group not only serves as a group of inclusion for all employees, both veterans and non-veterans, but members also provide community outreach, philanthropic and volunteer support throughout central Maryland. In 2013, the Baltimore Chapter of the EMAC accomplished the following:

·         Sponsorship and serving of several dinner services at The Baltimore Station<>, an innovative therapeutic residential treatment program supporting veterans and others who are transitioning through the cycle of poverty, addiction and homelessness to self-sufficiency.

·         Support of the BGE-sponsored Operation Oliver Neighborhood Revitalization with The 6th Branch, a veteran-led, multi-organizational partnership to rebuild and revitalize the Oliver neighborhood in East Baltimore City.  Volunteers participating in this cleanup join the Operation Oliver movement in partnership with the Veteran Artist Program and Come Home Baltimore, an initiative to rebuild and revitalize a blighted Baltimore neighborhood and attract former Oliver residents to return home and purchase property.

·         Support of several “Hiring our Heroes” Career Fairs in central Maryland and Washington, D.C.

·         Participation and support of the American Heart Association’s Baltimore Heart Walk.

“BGE and parent company Exelon extend a sincere and heartfelt ‘thank you’ to each of our veterans for their selfless service and dedication to our great nation, said Woerner. “The service you have given to our country and the sacrifices you have made allow all of us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. They are not taken for granted and will not be forgotten.  We are proud to call the more than 3,400 active and retired military veteran employees across the Exelon family of companies our colleagues.”

BGE and parent company Exelon continue to expand efforts to recruit veterans. BGE is dedicated to its commitment to America’s men and women in uniform and veterans, seeking opportunities to employ them throughout the company where their unique skills and talents can be utilized.

G.I. Jobs magazine today ranked the Exelon family of companies 46th on its 2014 Military Friendly Employers list<>, which recognizes the top 100 U.S. employers for military recruiting and retention and policies on National Guard and Reserve service.
