WHAT: Comptroller Peter Franchot will urge consumers at HH Gregg in Bel Air to take advantage of Shop Maryland Energy, a special weekend offering a tax break on certain ENERGY STAR products. Shop Maryland Energy begins at www.marylandtaxes.com., and runs through , with qualifying ENERGY STAR products exempt from Maryland’s six percent sales tax. A list of exempt and taxable items is available on the Comptroller’s website at
Comptroller Franchot then will present Maryland Masters Awards to three Harford County students: Jasanveer Aulakh, a fourth grader at Emmorton Elementary School, Bel Air, who did a mixed-media composition using collage techniques in the style of Charley Harper; Alexus Walz, an eighth grader at Aberdeen Middle School, who did a mixed-media composition of a tree using drawing techniques and design principles with colored pencil and ink; and Kenzie Targarona, a senior at C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, who did an expressive self-portrait in white charcoal. The Maryland Masters Award program recognizes students who have displayed extraordinary artistic skills and vision for Maryland’s future. The initiative celebrates the achievements of Marylanders through the arts and showcases the work of students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Their work will be on exhibit in the Comptroller’s Office in Annapolis for two months.
