Benjamin E. Smith, 64


Benjamin E. Smith (affectionately known as Ben) was born on March 8, 1947, in Richmond, Va., to the late Herman and Amelia Smith. His older brother, Alfred W. Smith, preceded him in death in 1996.

Benjamin was raised in the heart of Baltimore City in the 600 block of North Carrolton Ave. During his childhood, he made many of friends who have lasted a lifetime.

Benjamin was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. After graduating from Edmondson High School in 1965, he entered the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and became a jet engine mechanic. After being honorably discharged from the military, he attended what was then known as Morgan State College, where he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration.

Benjamin held several professional positions and was influential in obtaining employment for his nieces and nephews. He had a successful career with the federal government and, in 2007, retired after 30 years of service.

Benjamin’s life was an inspiration and a light to many people. His wisdom and intelligence were unmatched. Benjamin could speak on any topic and had a breath of knowledge that was unsurpassed. He made an everlasting impression on the lives of many.

On May 8, one month exactly to the day after his 64th birthday, Benjamin made his transition. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda Diane Gresham.
