Edith M. Finney, 78


Edith Mary Finney (nee Mackay) was born Dec. 30, 1932, the youngest of ten children born to the late Otho Mackay Sr., and Mabel Henson Mackay.

She was baptized as an infant at St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church, where she also made her First Holy Communion and Confirmation. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and continued to be a devoted member of the New All Saints Roman Catholic Church after their merger.

She was a product of the Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School.

After raising her family, she started her career at the Baltimore Credit Bureau and retired from Social Security Administration in March of 1995 where she received numerous awards for her outstanding service.

She was an avid sports fan, especially football, loving both the former Baltimore Colts and the Baltimore Ravens. She enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City with various senior groups and especially loved family gatherings.

Edith leaves to celebrate her life, three daughters, Edith Matthews, Pamela Hughes and Natalie Cole; and one son, Ronald Finney. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Sylvester Finney Jr. She is also survived by three sons-in-law, Dennis Matthews, Woody Hughes and Dwayne Cole; one daughter-in-law, Rose Finney, seven grandchildren, Beth Pierce, Erin Walker, Erika Finney, Britanny Cole, Courtney Finney, Lauren Cole and Bryan Finney; and eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Laura Mackay Phillips and one special niece who was like a sister, Elsie Mackay Ayers. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
