Soon there may be a new law requiring contractors to hire more Baltimore residents for jobs involving city contracts. The proposed local hiring bill, approved unanimously by the city council on second reading May 13, would require firms with $300,000 in city contracts or $5 million in city subsidies to prove that 51 percent of their new hires are Baltimore City residents.more

One of the signs of the times is that seniors who thought they would be retiring at a certain age are continuing in established careers or even starting second careers because of changes in the economy. Maybe they aren’t ready for a rocking chair, but many are interested in slowing down, just not so much. Jobs are not nearly as available in past decades; employer-employee loyalty is a dying concept, and some pension funds have been decimated.more
