The Heritage Museums and Gardens of Dorchester will host Dr. Cynthia Byrd, 6 p.m., May 10, whose presentation “Text and Textiles: The Art and Collections of Julia and William Purnell,” will focus on the holdings of the Purnell Museum in Snow Hill, Md. That facility was founded to showcase the textile art of Julia A. Purnell but the museum’s collections have grown to encompass aspects of local and national history unforeseen by its namesake.
This offering will explore some of the beautiful, historic, whimsical and the strange collection of art, artifacts and ephemera in the “Attic of Worcester County.” The speaker will entertain the audience’s questions as well.
The Heritage Museums and Gardens of Dorchester is located at 1003 Greenway Drive in Cambridge, Maryland. The public is welcome to attend this free event and to tour the facilities while they are on campus. For more information, please call 410.228.7953 or email email@example.com.
