The 24th Annual Torchbearer Awards Breakfast was hosted by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Baltimore Metropolitan Chapter at the Morgan State University Student Center.

The occasion is held to honor and recognize distinguished members in the community who are engaged and have made a special impact involving children and youth, housing, health, education and employment, the political process, and the criminal justice system.

The honorees are Taya Graham, an advocate for Black women through her academic research and outreach; Judge Shirley M. Watts, Court of Special Appeals, recently appointed by Gov. Martin O’Malley; Dr. Carissa M. Baker-Smith, asst. professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Brig. Gen. Linda Singh who was recently appointed by Gov. Martin O’Malley as the next assistant adjutant general for the Maryland Army National Guard.

Danielle Belton, creator/editor of the pop culture-meets-politics blog, The Black Snob, was the featured speaker.
