Lt. Governor Anthony Brown Named Maryland’s Public Health Hero

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown was recently feted as Maryland's Public Health Hero by the Maryland Health Care for All! Coalition. The event, which was held at the Annapolis Maritime Museum recognizes Brown's leadership in improving the health of Maryland's citizens.

The Health Care for All! Coalition is an organization of over 1200 faith, labor, business and community groups that have been working to guarantee all Marylanders access to quality health care.

During the 2012 session of the Maryland General Assembly, Brown championed legislation to advance Maryland's Health Benefit Exchange and reduced health disparities among numerous racial and ethnic groups and geographic areas by creating the Health Enterprise Zone pilot program.

Under the leadership of Governor Martin O'Malley and Brown, Maryland has implemented reforms that have spread health coverage to over 333,000 Marylanders, half of whom are children. The pair also put the state in position to maximize the federal Affordable Care Act.
