AmeriHealth Caritas Launches Program to Urge Healthier Living

The AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership, in collaboration with AmeriHealth District of Columbia and the Coca-Cola Company Foundation, will encourage D.C. residents to embrace healthier, balanced and more active lifestyles by launching its second health education and outreach program in the District.

The “21-Day Journey to Better Health” will kick off on Nov. 2 with an extravaganza featuring celebrities such as film and television actor Allen Payne from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will continue with Monday evening workshops on Nov. 11, Nov. 18 and Nov. 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The kickoff event and weekly workshops will take place at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church, 2616 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue S.E., Washington, D.C.

The 21-Day Journey is part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership’s Health Ministry, a faith-based program designed to educate participants on health topics. Events address the body, mind and spirit by focusing on stress and its effect on chronic conditions prevalent in vulnerable communities.

The District’s 21-Day Journey program will teach healthy cooking, eating and active living through workshops led by health experts and motivational speakers. The program includes health screenings such as body mass index, blood pressure, diabetes, dental and HIV. There will also be live gospel entertainment and free produce for those who complete the health screenings.

“The 21-Day Journey teaches important healthy habits and skills that will help participants enjoy healthier lives,” said Karen Dale, executive director of AmeriHealth District of Columbia. “We are pleased to support this program that can help reduce health disparities in the District.”
