According to former Secretary of State Colin Powell, he’s been snapping “selfies,” before cellular phones were even invented.
In honor of Facebook’s weekly “Throwback Thursday,” an activity where users post old photos of themselves, the retired four-star general posted a picture of his teenage self snapping a photo in front of a mirror. Powell was about 16 in the photo.
Under the picture, he also posted a caption that read: “I was doing selfies 60 years before you Facebook folks.”
A “selfie” is a self-portrait photograph. Originating from social media, the term has now become common among all age groups.
