On Nov. 10, Florida election officials declared that Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy had unseated 51-year-old one-term congressman Allen West. In spite of this declaration, the West campaign continues to refuse to concede.

“We’re simply not going to just walk away from the race until we see that the numbers add up,” Tim Edson, West’s campaign manager, told the AP.

West told television station WPEC that voters expect him to challenge the outcome. "If I come out on the short end of the stick, guess what?" he said. "I salute the flag, I wish you good luck and I continue on, and hopefully my replacement will be able to go up and contend with these monumental issues."

On Nov. 10, Murphy said it was time move forward. "As expected, the Election Night results have been confirmed,” Murphy said in a statement. “It is now time to put the campaign behind us.

“I am honored that the voters of the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches have chosen me to be their voice in Congress. Regardless of whether they voted for me or my opponent, I am committed to representing the interests of all residents of Florida’s 18th Congressional district in Washington.”
