([UPDATED June 21, 2013]June 20, 2013) A six-member jury was set June 20 for the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman, the 29-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer who is charged with the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old.

When the trial of Zimmerman begins June 24 in a Florida Circuit Court he will face an all-female jury that was selected after a process that took nine days. Five of the women are White and one is Hispanic or Black, according to prosecutors.

The jurors were identified in court only by number on the ninth day of selection. Four alternates – two men and two women – were also chosen.

The panel will be sequestered during the trial, which will begin with opening statements June 24 at 9 a.m. and is expected to last between two and four weeks.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, contending that he was defending himself from an assault by the unarmed teenager in an encounter between the two Feb. 26, 2012 in Sanford, Fla.
