Baltimore Police Arrest Suspect in Brutal Canton Attack

Baltimore police have arrested a suspect in connection with a brutal beating in the Canton neighborhood nearly two weeks ago that left a man with severe injuries.

Police said Jan. 24 that Mustafa Mohammed Ali Eraibi, 19, of Northeast Baltimore has been charged with attempted first degree murder for the Jan. 14 attack on 30-year-old Jonathan Fogg.

The arrest came several days after police released video surveillance images of a suspect in the hope that members of the community might be able to identify him.

The teen attacked Fogg with a brick, robbed him, and stole his vehicle in a violent attack unusual in the upscale Canton area. Fogg suffered several skull fractures, two broken hands, and eight missing teeth.

A crowd-sourced funding project to aid in Fogg’s recovery raised more than $27,000 in six days.

“Preliminary estimates for Jon's dental reconstructive work are $20,000 alone, so we hope to raise as much as we can,” family member Melissa Fogg Castone said on the project’s donation page at GoFundMe.com. “These donations will be used for Jon’s future medical and dental expenses as they relate to his injuries.”

“Our family cannot thank everyone enough for the extreme generosity that we have experienced through monetary donations, offerings of help or advice, messages of hope, and the sharing of this story,” said Castone.

Fogg’s attack came on the heels of another violent carjacking in Patterson Park. In that case, the victim’s car was stolen after he was hit over the head with a flowerpot.

According to Det. Jeremy Silbert of the Baltimore Police Department, investigators do not believe that the two attacks are related.
