A 59-year-old Laurel man was charged with killing his wife and stepdaughter and trying to shoot his son May 13, Prince Georges County police said.

Ronnie Lee Rainey was arrested by police at his home in the 16100 block of Malcolm Drive, in Laurel after police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a man who, they said, told emergency dispatchers he had killed his family and was threatening to kill himself.

The victims were identified as Lisa Renee Rainey, 50, and Ariale Chantre Shelton, 27. A 15-year-old,, who was identified as Rainey’s son, was shot at but uninjured.

When officers arrived, they found that Rainey had barricaded himself in the house. They talked him into surrendering without incident.

Police say Rainey faces two counts of first-degree murder and one account of attempted murder.
