Emerito Chicas-Savala, 33, of Silver Spring, has been charged with two separate sexual assaults committed in October near Northwestern High School in Adelphi, Prince George’s County police officials announced recently.

Chicas-Savala is from the 8700 block of Arliss Street in Silver Spring.

One assault occurred on Oct. 29 when two women were approached at about 1:15 p.m. in the 6700 block of Belcrest Road.

Police said the assailant produced a handgun, forced the women into a nearby wooded area, robbed them and then sexually assaulted one of the victims, a 24-year-old woman.

While in the middle of assaulting the woman, the assailant was surprised by the sound of someone approaching and ran away, police said.

Minutes later, less than 100 yards from the first assault, police said, a group of teenagers were approached by a man who produced a handgun, robbed the youths and sexually assaulted a 14-year-old female before running away.

Chicas-Savala was named the suspect by Prince George’s criminal investigators Dec. 13, was arrested and charged with first and second-degree rape, armed robbery, and related charges.

He is currently being held in Montgomery County on unrelated robbery charges.
