Return Donna Edwards to the House

U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D) is in a three-way contest against Faith Loudon of Pasadena, who has been active in the Republican Central Committee in Anne Arundel County, and Libertarian Scott Soffen of Ellicott City, in her bid for reelection in the Fourth Congressional District.

Based on her grasp of the issues, her commitment to constituent services and her willingness to fight for causes important to the community, the AFRO endorses Edwards.

The fledgling lawmaker has demonstrated growth since she joined Congress in 2008, even as she remains firmly connected to the community.

The lawmaker continues to be one of the most unabashedly progressive voices in Congress; yet, she bridged the partisan divide and worked with U.S. Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett (R) of Buckeystown to successfully co-sponsor the 21st Century Investment Act of 2011, which is meant to spur domestic manufacturing and innovation. Edwards also successfully fought to include a provision in the Affordable Care Act to prevent price gouging by private insurers and she continues to wage war against the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that allows unlimited political spending by corporations. She has also been an outspoken advocate for bills to spur job growth, make health care accessible for all, block attempts to stymie voting and improve the nation’s education system.

These are just a few of the reasons the AFRO endorses Rep. Donna Edwards in the General Elections for Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District seat.
