Buffalo Tops Morgan State in High Scoring Game

Branden Oliver ran for a career-best 238 yards with two touchdowns as Buffalo University defeated Morgan State, 56-34, Sept. 8 at UB Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y.

Buffalo’s offense pulled out all their tricks against Morgan State. UB quarterback Alex Zordich also posted a career high, completing 16-of-21 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Zordich often hooked up with receiver Alex Neutz, who caught eight receptions for 154 yards and all four of Zordich’s touchdown passes, the most of Neutz’ career.

When the final whistle blew, Buffalo had racked up 571 yards on offense, including 306 yards through the running game.

Despite their challenges defending Buffalo, Morgan State managed some success of their own on offense. The Bears recorded an impressive 366 offensive yards and scored the most points ever against a BCS member school, with 34 points.

MSU senior Troy Davidson ran for a career high of his own with 136 yards on 26 carries, and two touchdowns. Fellow senior running back Brian Mann also ran for a career-high 74 yards on 17 carries and scored on a short touchdown run.

Backup sophomore quarterback Robert Council came in for Morgan State late in the game and completed 12-of-16 passes for 161 yards with two touchdowns.

"It's not like we came in and they had a bad day," said Morgan State head coach Don Hill-Eley. "We showed that we have talent as well. They weren't just letting us run; they were dialing up blitzes and pinning their ears back. We just played good offensive ball today."

Morgan State will face the University of Akron on Sept. 15 in Akron, Ohio.
