Morgan Smokes UMES for Another Blowout Victory

Senior forward DeWayne Jackson scored 17 points as the Morgan State University Bears recorded its second blowout victory in less than a week, cruising to a 87-55 win over the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) Hawks on Feb. 16 in Princess Anne, Md.

The Bears scored the most points in a game since scoring 91 points against Coppin State on Feb. 22, 2012. Coincidentally they also thrashed Coppin by 29 points Feb. 9.

Morgan took control of the game early on when they leaped out to a 27-12 lead by the 10:05 mark of the first half, and built a 19-point lead by halftime. The Bears led by as much as 33 points in the second half before settling into a 22-point victory.

The Bears were able to get into a groove offensively as they shot a season-high 59 percent from the field for the game. Along with hot shooting from Jackson, Bears junior guard Justin Black caught fire and finished with a game-high 18 points.

Three other players for Morgan also scored double digits in points as junior center Ian Chiles posted 12 points, junior guard Anthony Hubbard added 11 points and freshman guard Donte Pretlow followed with 10 points.

Junior forward Troy Snyder led UMES with 14 points and senior center Olatunji Kosile posted a double-double of 11 points with 10 rebounds; the struggling Hawks have now lost seven straight games.

Morgan State (9-13 overall, 6-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)) will next face Delaware State (11-13 overall, 6-4 MEAC) on Feb. 18.
