Ravens Survive Historically Exciting Snow Game against the Vikings

Quarterback Joe Flacco tossed a nine-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Marlon Brown to push the Ravens to a 29-26 win in easily the craziest ending to an NFL game so far this season Dec. 8 in Baltimore, Md.

Five touchdowns were scored in the final two minutes of the game, including Flacco’s game-winning touchdown with only four seconds left on the game clock. But it all started when Flacco first threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dennis Pitta to put the Ravens ahead 15-12 at the two-minute mark.

Minnesota then scored just seconds later on a 41-yard touchdown run by running back Toby Gerhart to retake the lead, 19-15.

Receiver Jacoby Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown, pushing Baltimore back ahead 22-19. But the Vikings responded again with a 79-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Cassell to rookie receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, putting the Vikings in front, 26-22, with 45 seconds left.

That’s when Flacco and Brown came through in the clutch on their game-winning drive.
Flacco finished completing 28-of-50 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns. However, he was also picked off three times. Brown led the Ravens with seven catches for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Baltimore’s Pitta, who missed the first 14 weeks of the season after injuring his hip during training camp, returned for his first action of the season. He caught six passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.

Vikings all-pro running back Adrian Peterson left the game early with what appeared to be an ankle injury. But backup running back Toby Gerhart did an effective job replacing Peterson, and running 89 yards and a touchdown.

Vikings QB Cassell completed 17-of-38 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

Next-up: The win over Minnesota advanced the Ravens to a 7-6 overall record on the season. They currently hold the sixth and final seed in the AFC playoffs picture. Baltimore will next face the dangerous Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, Dec. 16 in Detroit, Mich.
