Jamaica Finishes Dead Last in Two-Man Bobsled Event

The Jamaican team finished dead last in the two-man bobsled event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Jamaica finished last out of 30 teams in the first two heats and 29th out of 29 teams in the last heat of an event that once turned the country’s team into a Hollywood inspiration.

Two- and four-man teams from tropical Jamaica became the first to compete in a cold weather event during the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary, Alberta. Their presence in those games inspired the 1993 Disney movie “Cool Runnings.”

Jamaica has never won a medal, but has qualified for seven different Winter Olympics, including this year in Sochi.

The U.S. team earned bronze in the two-man sled event; Russia won the gold medal while Switzerland took silver.]
