Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick
The Michigan Chronicle reported that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was forced to post bond last week and ordered to take a drug test after allegedly assaulting a Wayne County deputy sheriff who was serving a subpoena at the mayor’s sister’s house in connection with the criminal case against Kilpatrick.
According to the Chronicle, an irate Mayor Kilpatrick was also on the premises and burst out of the home, charged the deputy sheriff and physically threw him off the porch causing him to injure his hip, the deputy testified.
Kilpatrick’s bond was set at $7,500 and his personal travel privileges suspended and limited that allows him to only travel outside of the state with court approval. Meanwhile, the Detroit City Council voted to continue its efforts to have the mayor removed from office.
